On Tuesday 24th June, eight students from Year 9 went on an exciting educational visit to Wincanton Logistics Depot, organised by Mrs Ball, Careers Lead. This leading supply chain company opened its doors to give students a firsthand look at how modern logistics operations work and the diverse career opportunities available in the industry.
During their tour, students got an up-close view of the impressive warehouse operations and state-of-the-art machinery in action. The highlight for many was the chance to sit in the driver’s seat of large commercial trucks and how everything worked. What made this experience even more valuable was having various company leaders on hand, including the Managing Director and Head of Inclusion, who took time to explain different aspects of the business and answer students’ questions about potential career paths.
The visit revealed that a logistics company offers far more than just driving and warehouse positions. Students learned about roles in management, technology, customer service, and operations planning. The enthusiasm of Wincanton employees was evident as they shared their experiences and demonstrated how different skills and interests could lead to successful careers within the organisation. This real-world exposure helped students understand how classroom learning connects to actual job opportunities, making it a valuable experience for their future career planning.
