Year 12 Sociology students visited Shrewsbury Prison last week as part of their studies on crime and deviance.
Led by Miss Arif, the trip offered a fascinating behind the scenes tour of the prison which the students found really exciting. They learnt how the prison was steeped in history as they explored real cells, the execution sites and discovered what the daily routines of inmates would have been like.
Many students commented on how eye opening and thought provoking the trip was. It was a fantastic insight into how punishment and rehabilitation have evolved over time, which links to key topics in their studies.
Miss Arif said ‘our sixth formers pupils behaved impeccably during their visit to the prison. They showed curiosity, empathy and gained a better understanding of the operations of the prison. Well done to everyone for making it a brilliant day out of the classroom.’
