Year 10 pupils carried out river fieldwork along the River Ashbrooke at Carding Mill Valley, Shropshire, to investigate how the river changes downstream. Carding Mill Valley is a 2000 hectare heathland rich in wildlife, geology and archaeology, which provides a fantastic spot for the data collection fieldwork.

Working in small groups, pupils measured the width, depth and flow speed at several points downstream using tape measures and corks to test the flow. It was great to hear so many geographers pointing out factors about the landscape and surrounding vegetation.

The data collected will now be used an analysed in lessons. Well done to everyone for their efforts!
