Dear Parents/Carers,

Year 12 A-Level French students will shortly be receiving a letter about an exciting upcoming trip to HOME Manchester.

The trip will take place on Wednesday 2nd December from 8am-5.30pm. Pupils will be travelling by minibus from school, and there will be a £50 cost involved for travel and for entry into the venue.

This study day aims to offer students the opportunity to see a recent film which, this year, tackles family heritage and art. Isabelle will introduce the film in French, providing relevant information on actors, the director and the historical background of the film (Paris at the end of the 19th century). Key vocabulary/phrases to discuss a film critically in French will also be provided. The screening will be followed by a range of language exercises in French around the main characters, plot and themes. The session will also present some mise en scène strategies used for representing the past and artistic movements. Students will also be encouraged to exercise their visual literacy and critical thinking skills in relation to the film. This complements the A-level curriculum and is a highly engaging and immersive experience.

The letter with full details of the trip will be sent by Mrs Smoker, in due course.
