Over the weekend of Friday 13th to Sunday 15th March, twenty-five Year 12 and Year 13 students took part in an exciting and challenging residential visit to Edale in the Peak District. The group arrived at YHA Edale on Friday afternoon, where students settled in and received an initial briefing ahead of a busy schedule.

Following dinner on the first evening, students took part in a series of on-site problem-solving activities. These sessions encouraged teamwork, communication and resilience, setting a strong foundation for the weekend. The evening concluded with some free time in the hostel before students turned in for the night.

Saturday was packed with adventure. After breakfast, students headed out for a morning of caving, where they were challenged both physically and mentally as they navigated underground environments. The afternoon saw students take on the Jacobs Ladder and crate stacking activities, which tested communication and teamwork, as well as pushing students to step outside of their comfort zones. In the evening, students embarked on a night hike which included stargazing which everyone said was a highlight of the trip.

On Sunday morning, students completed their final activity which was abseiling from a viaduct at Millers Dale. I was proud to see so many students (and teachers) showing perseverance and determination to overcome personal fears.

Throughout the weekend all students showed maturity and enthusiasm. Staff were particularly impressed with the way students supported one another and approached each activity with a positive mindset. The residential was a great success, providing valuable opportunities for personal development, confidence building and teamwork, alongside an enjoyable and memorable experience for all involved.

Thanks must go to Miss Spurrier, Mrs Spencer, Mr Brackstone and Mr Rostron for supporting the students on the residential.
