On Wednesday 25th June our talented young athletes took to the track to compete in the much-anticipated Sports Day to determine who’d be crowned as House Champions. Alongside the exciting sporting events, there were several additional events taking place including, the summer Community Afternoon Tea and fundraising events.
Field Events
The competition kicked off with Year’s 7-10 taking on Shot Putt, Discuss, Long jump, Javelin, 1500m run & High Jump. Spirits were high with support from peers and teachers which helped pupils produce some remarkable results! A group of students were also taken to Barton Bowls Club to compete in a friendly environment which they all thoroughly enjoyed. The opportunity to play bowls built their confidence and cemented the fact that sport is inclusive and accessible to everyone.
Track Events
After lunch it was time for the track events; 300m, 200m, 100m final and relay race. Mr took to the microphone as the announcer and created an electric atmosphere. The team-spirit, determination and encouragement between the pupils was a joy to see and the sporting talent was just as impressive.
Charity Stall
As well as the hive of sporting activity, our Year 7 pupils set up a number of stalls to fundraise for multiple charities. They planned, promoted and ordered stock for their stalls as part of their employability skills topic. The stalls included selling ice-lollies, drinks, sweets & face-painting. Well done to everyone & thank you to Mrs Ball & Mrs Grewcock for their help on the day!
Community Afternoon Tea
We were also joined by our local elderly residents who had been invited to come and watch Sports Day and enjoy some delicious cakes, served by Mrs Berry and her team of Young Sporting Ambassadors. The residents thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon and was lovely for them to see the pupils in action. They were so thankful to have been invited and left with some goodies to take home. Mrs Berry wanted to give a special thank you to Mrs Smith and Mrs Gee for baking the incredible cakes and sausage rolls, and to Poppy Scout Flower Shop in Barton for donating the prize for the raffle.
Staff Race
To finish the day, the traditional teachers relay took place which was a real spectacle for everyone to watch. Pupils were cheering and chanting for the teachers and it was a great way to end the day before the presentation.
Trophy Presentations
Well done to all those pupils who broke records in the track and field events. Some records had not been broken for over 25 years! Mr Blanchenot was delighted to present the trophies to the Year 12 House Leaders. Congratulations to:
- Sherwood, who won the Sports Day Shield as overall winners.
- Sherwood, who won the House Rose Bowl for having the most house merits.
- Kingstone, who won the House Cup for winning the house matches.
- Sherwood, who won the Community Sheild.
A huge thank you goes to everyone for making Sports Day 2025 a success. It was a memorable day planned to perfection by Mr Hulley and the PE department! We would also like to give Mrs Berry a fond farewell as she retires from JTHS and the PE Department after 43 incredible years! To honour her amazing career all current school records at Sports Day will be classed as a Mrs Berry Legacy Record.
