Director of Post 16, Mr Legood said, ‘’we are delighted that the time and energy that our Sixth Form students invested into their studies has been reflected in their results. We have every confidence they will embark on the next chapter of their lives with the same levels of commitment and perseverance. Sixth Form is not just about the qualifications gained; we are equally proud of the personal development students have demonstrated over the past two years. The students have been incredible role models that younger members of our community have rightly looked up to. I wish them all the very best in whatever their next chosen step is.’’

Mr Blanchenot, Headteacher, commented “we are incredibly proud and thrilled with the outcomes of both the A Level and Vocational courses. These phenomenal results have opened a plethora of opportunities allowing pupils to pursue aspirations in higher-education, apprenticeships and employment. Congratulations to every student for exceeding our expectations, I have no doubt that you will continue to show personal excellence in all you do.’’

There have been a considerable amount of students taking on apprenticeships, in a variety of fields from the armed forces to surveying, where others have chosen to secure employment, take a gap year or continue into Higher Education. Students will be heading to a range of Universities from Aberystwyth to York, where they will be studying a variety of subjects including Biomedical Science, Law and Mechanical Engineering.

Loulou Gathergood, a Year 13 student, shared her plans for the future and reflected on her time in Sixth form, she said “my plan is to join The Royal Navy as a Warfare officer. I’m excited for this as it’s a new chapter where I can meet like minded people and travel to loads of different places like Japan and Australia. The 6th form team were so helpful when I asked for documents to be filled in or even for any advice to prep for interviews, it made my application seem smoother and they supported me every step of the way. Being a warfare officer involves a lot of leadership and organisation so to help prepare for that I decided to take up the role of one of Sherwood’s house leaders and this has greatly improved my confidence and I’ve learned many skills which I can take forward into the Navy. While completing my A-levels, I had a lot of support from the various subjects departments and this further helped aid my studies so that I could achieve the best results possible. I found that the teachers really do accommodate for different learning styles and this has greatly helped me throughout my time at 6th form. I’m looking forward to my future endeavour because I have been set up for life and I’m very grateful for all the help and support I have received at John Taylor”.
