The canteen at John Taylor High School is very popular and offers a wide range of options for all tastes. We have two canteens, one for Lower School & one for Upper School. We also have a takeaway canteen located in the Sixth Form Room. All food outlets operate on a cashless system and pupils will use their fingerprint to pay, which is linked to their individual ParentPay account.
As well as the usual offering, the canteen staff often add themed menu’s throughout the year. For example Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Christmas Dinner, Valentines Menu and more.
See below for the current Menu and details of the current School Meal Price List:
Please note, the Hot Main Meal Deal of £3.20 includes food from ‘The Core’ menu and a dessert from the canteen.
We would like to make you aware of the process, should your child purchase an item from the canteen and there are insufficient funds on their ParentPay account.
- We know that parents are busy and may genuinely forget to top up their child’s ParentPay account.
- We also know that in some cases parents have topped up their child’s ParentPay account, however the money does not show immediately.
Should your child encounter a problem in the canteen where there are insufficient funds on their account, the following process must be taken:
- Canteen Staff will tell the pupil to go to Staff Office (near First Aid)
- Staff Office will check the ParentPay account to establish the issue
- Staff Office will call parents/carers to authorise an overspend of £5 for that day
- If Staff Office is unable to make contact with the parent/carer, the school will authorise a £5 overspend
- The pupil will be given a purple slip to take back to the canteen. They will be allowed to go back to the front of the queue to make their food/drink purchase.
We kindly ask that parents/carers top up their child’s account immediately to cover the £5 loan from the school.
The school’s work to promote pupils’ personal development is exceptional. (Ofsted, May 2025)
