On Thursday 23rd October, we were delighted to welcome over 1,000 prospective Year 7 pupils and their parents for Open Evening 2025. The school buzzed with excitement as students explored various faculties and discovered the plethora of on-site resources available to them.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted by our student helpers and shown to the hall for a presentation or to embark on a self-guided tour. A special thank you goes to our talented Sixth Former Avi, whose incredible performance on the piano created a warm and inviting atmosphere for everyone.
Mr Blanchenot, Headteacher, kicked off the presentation by providing parents and pupils with an insightful glimpse into life at John Taylor High School. This was followed by Miss Crutchley, Assistant Head and Head of Lower School, who introduced key staff members, spoke about Year 7 transitions and what pupils can expect in Year 7, should they decide that JTHS is the school for them. It was also fantastic to hear from Inayah and Ella, who confidently shared their experiences as Year 7 students on the stage. Well done to all of you, the audience’s enthusiastic applause at the end spoke volumes!
Beyond the presentation, guests had the opportunity to tour the entire school and engage in a variety of activities prepared by our dedicated staff. From naming flags in Geography and uncovering artefacts in History, to posing life’s important questions in Religious Studies, observing students create masterpieces in Art, participating in hands-on experiments in Science and enjoying numerous sports in PE, there was truly something to inspire everyone. Additionally, our talented musicians in Performing Arts provided delightful performances, while students acted out scenes from “The Inspector Calls” in English. Pupils also participated in a fun math game called “play your cards right,” explored different languages in MFL, thought like architects in Design Technology, and whipped up delicious shortbread in Food Tech.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this memorable evening. A special thank you to our student helpers, all the staff who went above and beyond behind the scenes, and those who took the time to showcase what our school has to offer, answer parents’ questions, and provide a friendly face for prospective students.
