Weekly Information - Thursday 1st July 2021
- There will be a second hand school uniform sale on Sunday 10th July (11am-2pm) and Monday 11th July (3pm-6pm) at 15 Park Rd, Barton. If anyone has any uniform to donate, please email [email protected].
- Due to the pandemic the PTA haven't been able to raise the usual level of funds and we don't how long it'll be until we can resume our fundraising events. We have therefore been unable to support the school with the extras that we normally would. - For the PTA to continue, we need to recruit a new Chairperson at our September meeting. For more information regarding the role, please contact Emma at [email protected].

Please find attached an information leaflet to help your child stay safe this summer.
"Imagine if all the harmful features of the digital world were in traditional toys. Welcome to the World of Twisted Toys, a wonderland of excitement, experiences and exploitation. We pride ourselves in making toys that are addictive, risky and put you completely under our control."
This is the opening screen from a brand new service from the 5 Rights Foundation which is an amazing organization who work with and on behalf of children to make systemic changes to the digital world ensuring it caters for children and young people.
Twisted Toys is an awareness-raising campaign and it is as quirky as it is brilliant. You really need to watch the short videos to understand what it's all about. There's Share Bear, Stalkie Talkie, My First Terms and Conditions, Wakey Wakey, Pocket Troll, Pay as you YoYo and more. For example "Stalkie Talkie - is the hand held, hi-tech toy that uses algorithms which match children with adult strangers. Press the button then just sit back and wait for billions of unknown people to find you. How do you tell if they're a friend or a predator? We don't know either!"
We have been advised to share this information with parents as a useful tool to start conversations at home about online safety.
You can find the Twisted Toys website HERE.
The link below takes you to a website to support with reporting harmful online content. This can be used by students or parents.
Dear Parent/Carer,
As we move into the last few weeks before the summer break, we would like to try and get together another Food Bank collection to deliver at the end of term. We are encouraging students to bring some items in, but ultimately, we know this will likely come down to you. So, if you are willing to donate any items it would be greatly appreciated! Some items that are key to a food parcel are rice, pasta, cereal (own brand can be under £1), tinned fruit, biscuits, soup, pasta sauce and any long-life items. I know that any donations are greatly appreciated! These can be handed in to their form tutors. Thank you in advance with this. As a school we have been overwhelmed with the general generosity of spirit, kindness and support the students have shown each other and the wider school community, particularly in the difficult circumstances that we have endured. I could not be prouder of them.
Miss Sears
Dear Parent/Guardian
Your young person is due two vaccinations that are free on the NHS and are given in Year 9 as part of the national immunisation programme. The vaccinations are to protect against Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio (3-in-1 Teenage Booster) and four strains of Meningitis (ACWY).
· Meningitis ACWY vaccination helps to protect your child against four types of meningococcal bacteria (groups A, C, W and Y) that can cause meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain) and septicaemia (blood poisoning). These diseases are very serious and can kill, especially if not diagnosed early.
· The 3 in 1 Teenage booster vaccination protects against Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio. This should be the fifth dose which completes their childhood course; it boosts protection started earlier with baby and pre-school vaccinations against these diseases to give long lasting protection.
For those children who are outstanding their Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) dose two vaccination, for which a paper consent form has already been completed, you DO NOT need to consent, however if your child has not yet received their HPV dose one and you would like your child to receive this vaccination, please consent on-line using the link below.
More information regarding these vaccinations can be accessed through the links below. Please ensure that you read the information contained in the links below prior to booking an appointment and giving consent for your child’s immunisations. You must have parental responsibility or delegated authority to consent for the vaccinations.
An Electronic Consent has been sent directly to Parents of Year 9 girls and boys. This consent can be completed on any electronic device. E-Consent is required by 1:00pm on Friday 2nd July 2021.
Please ensure that you complete and submit your child’s consent form promptly, whether you wish your child to be immunised or not, and only submit one consent form per child. If you have any concerns or would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Immunisation Team on 03001240366 or email [email protected]
If your child has already received these immunisations, please contact us at [email protected] or call 0300 124 0366 to advise.
Kind Regards
