Weekly Information - Friday 30th April 2021
We are fast approaching the end of the month of Ramadan and with it the celebration of Eid, please can we ask that any parents who intend for their children to remain off school to celebrate Eid notify us in advance.
Please email Mrs Keeling [email protected] (years 7-11) or Miss Spurrier [email protected] (6th Form) with the child’s name, year and form group. In your email state clearly that you intend for your child to be absent to celebrate Eid.
We know that there will not be a clear date for Eid until closer to the 12th May but once you know which day your child will not be attending again please email and keep us informed.
We hope to provide as little disruption to Eid celebrations as possible, however if you do not notify us in advance we will follow normal attendance and safeguarding procedures and will be contacting you regarding your child’s absence. If we are unable to contact you on the day this may result in your child absence being recorded as unauthorised.

Please find below a selection of online safety advice we have recently received that may be of interest. Thank you.
- Online Money Management - What Parents and Carers Need to Know
As more children and young people start to spend money online through gaming and social media platforms, a guide has been created to help parents and carers equip them with the skills they need to do this smartly and safely.

- TikTok - Legal Action
The former Children's Commissioner, Anne Longfield, last week launched a legal campaign against TikTok on behalf of "millions of children whose data was illegally taken and transferred to unknown third parties for profit". You can read more on THIS website, where parents are able to register and potentially win compensation for their affected child.
- Instagram - New Tool to Protect from Abuse
Last week Instagram rolled out an update which included a new tool to prevent people from receiving abusive DM (private message) requests. This has to be turned on in Settings and you can find more information HERE.
- Campaign - Gurls Out Loud
Gurls Out Loud is a campaign from the Internet Watch Foundation to empower girls to block, report and tell someone if they are asked by an adult for explicit images.
The I.W.F say that "every day girls are contacted online by adults who try to manipulate them.....our mission is to help you and all the girls you care about to block, report and tell someone you trust". You can find more information HERE.
If you have any second hand uniform that you can donate to be passed on to other families and raise funds for the PTA, please contact Amy Pountain and Jayne Hoysal at [email protected]. Many thanks.
Please note that both of the upcoming Year 11 Maths assessments are CALCULATOR assessments. This is different from the student timetables that have been distributed which said that one was a non-calculator paper - we apologise for this error. Pupils will need a scientific calculator and standard Maths equipment for both assessments. Please note we cannot loan equipment out to students.
We recommend the Casio brand as most user friendly, these are available to purchase at the usual online retailers but also most main supermarkets. We advise that if pupils need a new calculator to purchase one outside of school in order to ensure that they have it in time, and can get used to it in advance of their assessments.
Year 11 Pupils have also been emailed about this.
Kind regards,
The Maths Department
