This week we will be welcoming back students in Economics, Further Maths, History, English Literature, BTEC Science and BTEC Health and Social Care. The weather forecast suggests that it will be very hot later in the week, therefore, please ensure that students wear clothes suitable for the weather and that they bring a drink with them. Students can wear shorts if they wish. Please remind your son/daughter that they must adhere to social distancing guides and wash their hands as soon as they arrive. Students attending on a Wednesday should head straight to the Sports Hall facilities and on a Thursday and Friday, they will need to use the facilities on the lower science corridor before heading upstairs to their lessons. All students using public transport, including school buses, should wear a face covering.

Year 12 Consolidation Week will commence this week.
Students who have timetabled face-to-face lessons will still attend these lessons in school, however, no additional work will be set on Go4Schools for other subjects during this week.
This will provide an opportunity for students to review what they have learned so far, create revision material, and seek help from teaching staff if required. For those students who have fallen behind with their work, this is an opportunity to create a fresh start and catch up on any outstanding work.
In addition, students who have signed up to the Young Professionals Virtual Work Experience week will still be able to attend the workshops on offer and continue to develop their Post 18 applications either through UCAS or the Government Apprenticeship site.
Following a rigorous selection process that involved activities such as group interviews, action planning and video presentations, the Sixth Form team would like to introduce you to our new Head Students. Each student has been allocated an area of responsibility to lead on and we very much look forward to working with them upon our return to school.

All Year 12 Tutors will be inviting members of their form to attend a 'live' MS Team meeting on Tuesday 30th June at 9.15am to 9.30am. If students are in Form 12H this will take place on Wednesday, July 1st. The purpose of these meetings is to provide students with an opportunity to talk to members of their form and to share their experiences of this week (work experience and coping with the workload). It will also be an opportunity for Tutors to talk about Post 18 applications and references. A link to attend the meeting will be shared directly with the students, via their e-mail. Please remind your son/daughter to attend next week.
Form tutors in all year groups are now scheduling weekly Microsoft Teams meetings for their tutor group. Students are strongly recommended to join these to enagage with their form tutor and other members of the group.
Some teachers are also adding Microsoft Teams meetings to their weekly provision to allow students to check in and ask questions or follow up on aspects of their work. This is a really valuable tool at this time and will offer some face to face contact during home learning.
It should be straight forward to participate in as Office 365 can be accessed from any internet enabled device. (The Teams App can also be downloaded onto smart phones).
Please ensure that you fully understand the student protocols set out at the end of the first document prior to participating in any online live sessions with your teachers.
The two guides below will assist you in accessing these meetings. If you have any further technical questions, please contact our IT support team on the following email:
They have also produced a really pafctical help guide which covers all aspects of our IT provision. This can be accessed here: JTHS Working at Home Guidance.
The company called Young Professionals will be delivering their Virtual Work Experience programme this week for all of our Year 12 students that registered in May. As you can see from the programme below it is a fantastic opportunity for your son/daughter to learn about the different sectors and to increase their network of contacts. Please advise your son/daughter to check their e-mails for the link to attend. (This may have made its way into their junk box). The organisers are aware that if a student has a face to face lesson in school that they will not be able to join the seminar on that day, however, there will be an opportunity to watch a recording of the session at a later date.
Following the Young Professional's day in November, many of our students have already downloaded this companies app to help them network with future employers. Young Professionals has now developed a digital platform for students to practice answering interview questions so that they can develop their confidence and ability to think on their feet. The questions are changed every two weeks, so there will be plenty of variety.
It's really simple to access and use, students will need to sign up and then follow the page to interviews. If your son/daughter has already downloaded the Young Professionals App then they can use the same login details to access the platform. Link is here https://young-professionals.uk/members/signin
The opportunities available online are now vast and it can be overwhelming for students to explore which ones they would like to engage in. Therefore, the attached pdf provides a list of opportunities that are available this week.

In response to the lockdown, Catch22 have produced a video aimed directly at children and young people, given that we know they will be spending many hours a day on their devices and they are coming into contact with fewer adults who might otherwise have the opportunity to help safeguard them. You will see that the messages are in the form of abbreviations and emojis which will be familiar to many young people but perhaps less so to parents and professionals. For this reason we are including the emoji dictionary for parents which may help families to spot concerns with online communication and messaging.
Catch 22 are the Staffordshire commissioned service for supporting children and young people with unhealthy relationships, supporting victims of child sexual exploitation and children who are missing from home.
Referral options for this service - you can refer yourself, you can refer a family member or friend, you can contact school to support with a referral.
