Welcome to the MFL Curriculum page
The Head of Faculty is Miss Quirk.
Our Aim: Students will become fluent in the use of phonics, essential core vocabulary and grammatical structures and different tenses, through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex structures, students develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge in all 4 language skills for effective communication.
Students to build linguistic abilities or/and to attain mastery in second language (L2). Develop their communicative skills and self-efficacy and enable them to experience success in their language learning journey. The Curriculum in Languages aims to stimulate and maintain student interest and enjoyment in French/German and to create an atmosphere where students wish to learn and enjoy learning languages because they are active participants in it and because staff enjoy teaching and give their very best. In doing this we aim to enable each student to achieve their potential. The curriculum builds on prior learning at KS2, regardless of the L2 studied, and also building upon L1 literacy skills by reinforcing vocabulary, phonetics, basic grammar, and transactional language(s). Acquire a strong phonetic knowledge to enable them to converse confidently and to pronounce new vocabulary accurately, which will reinforce many literacy skills from their first language (L1). Develop fluency in both receptive and productive language use, through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex structures over time, so that students develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply essential knowledge rapidly and accurately.
Develop extensive core of vocabulary and to learn how to manipulate grammatical structures to allow them to personalise information for output and retain these core phrases. Communicate, justify, argue, and become resilient and competent linguists who are open-minded and versatile communicators. MFL serves a cultural and linguistic purpose in that it exposes students to foreign language and culture, therefore promoting global citizenship which aims to foster students’ curiosity and deepen their understanding and further appreciate British Culture and similarities or/and differences. Develop their character, including resilience, confidence, and independence, so that they contribute positively to the life of the school, their local community, and the wider environment.
