This week Miss Crutchley has been busy nominating all the fantastic pupils who have contributed their time and efforts to public speaking at recent school events.

The first event was the Year 7 Service of Welcome which took place on Monday 20th October at St. James’ Church in Barton-Under-Needwood. The entire Year 7 cohort were invited to attend and was a great way for our students to learn more about our wider local community and the part they play as JTHS students. Miss Crutchley said ‘I am proud of how our Year 7 pupils engaged during the service. It was great to have our pupils, teachers, parents and key contacts from the local community all under one roof. Events like this are the epitome of our ‘One Community’ ethos.’ A special well done to Sienna E, Robyn C, Eryn S, Maria-Joan C, Eliza F, Eleanor W, Bonnie B for doing readings and taking an active part in the service.
The next event was Open Evening which saw hundreds of prospective Year 7 pupils and their parents attend the school for a presentation and tour. As part of the presentations in the main school hall, Miss Crutchley was incredibly impressed with Ella C and Inayah A who stood up and shared their experience as new students at John Taylor High School. Both pupils spoke with passion, courage and authenticity. Many parents commented on how well Ella and Inayah had represented the school and given prospective pupils a glimpse into life as a Year 7. Ella and Inayah said although they initially felt nervous to stand up in front of so many people, they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and felt proud to have been chosen to share their story.
Mr Blanchenot finished by telling the group how impressed he was to see so many Year 7 students being nominated so early in the academic year. Only students that have truly gone above and beyond get the opportunity to be recognised in this way and that they should all be proud of themselves. Finally…before the group left Mr Blanchenot’s office, he asked them the most important question of all – a question that gets asked each week to everyone who joins him at Hot Chocolate with the Head…How did they eat their chocolate bars? Amongst the group there were pupils that dipped their chocolate bars in their hot chocolate to make it slightly soft, others who ate them straight away and even one who put the entire bar into her hot chocolate, so it completely melted altogether! The pupils and Mr Blanchenot had lots of fun debating and discussing this pressing topic!
