Ms Burns, Head of Faculty for English, was inspired to see our Year 7 pupils take on this term’s cross-curricular enrichment project, with so much enthusiasm.

In English, pupils were tasked to work in pairs on two origami challenges inspired by football.

In the first challenge one partner followed a set of instructions given by the other partner to make an origami football shirt. Both partners were facing in opposite directions and were only allowed to communicate verbally. In the second challenge partners swapped roles and used the same procedure to make a football and a 3D goal.

Each round required clear, step-by-step commands using the instructions and the example vocabulary. All the pupils made a fantastic effort in correctly using imperative verbs, nouns, adjectives and prepositions such as ‘fold, crease, align, tuck.’

To make this task even more challenging, pupils were working under time constraints which encouraged conciseness and quick problem solving skills.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this task and Ms Burns was thrilled to see how pupils developed their communication, listening and teamwork skills throughout the task.

Well done to everyone involved.
