Last week, every Year 7 pupil received an early festive gift of a free reading book as part of our participation in this years’ BookBuzz initiative. Earlier in October, all pupils in the year group were given opportunity to choose a book from a collection of sixteen titles, which included a wide range of genres from both new and established writers.
The BookBuzz programme is coordinated by BookTrust, the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, and aims to provide children across the country with opportunities to develop a passion for reading and storytelling. This years’ collection included works by popular modern authors such as Katherine Rundell, Alastair Chisholm, Sharna Jackson, and Phil Hicks.
Year 7 pupils will also be encouraged to participate in the annual BookBuzz Reading Challenge, which includes a chance to win one of five library goodie bag prizes. To be entered into the prize draw, pupils have until Friday 16th January 2026 to finish reading their chosen BookBuzz title and complete the corresponding comprehension quiz on our online Accelerated Reader platform. Details of the challenge will be posted on our Go4Schools platform, which pupils can access via the JTHS Intranet page, along with all our online applications. Go to – https://intranet.jths.co.uk
