It has been a pleasure for teachers and support staff to welcome new pupils this week and support them during their transition from primary to secondary school.
Miss Crutchley, Head of Lower School commented that ‘it is our aim that all pupils joining our school community, feel confident about their new routines, feel supported by teachers and feel welcomed. It has been a fantastic week and I hope our new pupils feel ready to begin their next chapter with us in September.’
To begin the day, pupils attended a welcome assembly which gave them an overview of life at JTHS and what they had to look forward to during their transition day.
This year’s theme was ‘Becoming JTHS Community Champions’ which they explored in different subjects. In Art they created Positivity Badges to represent their identity. In English they wrote future-self postcards and poems. In Personal Development they explored different hopes, fears, strengths and goals linking them to the school values. In History they learnt of local heroes and how it shapes part of their story.
The transition process also goes on beyond the start of the new school year, with Year 7 events such as Bonding Day and the Service of Welcome planned within the first half term. All transition activities are designed to ensure the students, parent/carers feel part of the John Taylor High School community.
