Our Year 12 pupils got a glimpse into what to expect during an interview process this morning at their mock interview sessions. The interviews were led by ‘Bridge Builders’ who are ex-business professionals from the local community and skilled in interviewing whilst getting the best responses out of our students.
Students were asked questions about post-16 plans, what they are most proud of, transferable skills, current work experience, volunteering and future aspirations. The set of questions were designed to get students thinking about their future and get them used to talking about themselves. This allowed students to gain confidence and build communication skills whilst in a comfortable environment.
At the end of each interview, the ‘Bridge Builders’ provided constructive feedback on an evaluation form. Marks were given to the students on eye contact, positive body language, conveyed enthusiasm, clear and concise responses, how well they emphasised their skills and general quality of their responses.
The workshops were organised by Miss Spurrier, Sixth Form Administrator & Work Related Learning Coordinator, who said ‘the Bridge Builder volunteers were impressed with the maturity and enthusiasm our students showed throughout the sessions. Thank you to all the volunteers who provided excellent feedback to our students and helped identify students’ strengths and areas for growth, making them better prepared for future job opportunities. I hope our students benefited from this exercise and use the skills they have learnt when applying for university, apprenticeships and jobs.’
