This event is part of our ongoing celebrations for the 2026 National Year of Reading.

The celebrations for the 2026 National Year of Reading continued this week with another event in our series of virtual author visits. Pupils from Years 7-9 assembled in the library to participate in an online author event with multiple award-winning author Katherine Rundell, creator of the bestselling Impossible Creatures series. During the interactive livestream, Katherine revealed her inspirations for creating a fantasy world with a multitude peculiar and fantastic characters, and provided advice for young writers on how they can develop their own story ideas.
Participating pupils were some of the very first people in the world to hear Katherine read the first chapter from her brand-new book in the Impossible Creatures series, The Neverfear, published this week. The session concluded with a live Q&A, with pupils submitting their questions via the live chat.
