What an absolute blast everyone had at this year’s sports day. The perfect way to end the term and discover who the house champions were. Alongside the exciting sporting events, there were several additional events taking place including, the summer Community Afternoon Tea and fundraising events.
Field Events
Spirits were hight as pupils took on the field events; Shot Putt, Discuss, Long jump, Javelin, 1500m run & High Jump. A group of students were also taken to Barton Bowls Club to compete in a friendly environment which they all thoroughly enjoyed showing how sport is inclusive and accessible to everyone.
Track Events
After lunch it was time for the track events; 300m, 200m, 100m final and relay race. Everyone did fantastically and there were even JTHS records being broken! A big thank you to Mr. Jones for taking to the microphone as the announcer and helping to create an electric atmosphere with the spectators and interviewing our pupils. Throughout the track events there was team-spirit, determination and encouragement between the pupils.
The traditional teachers relay took place which was a fantastic way to finish the day. Shout out to Mr Brackstone, Mr Benstead, Miss Archer and Miss Spurrier for dressing in inflatable dinosaur costumes to complete the race, the pupils loved cheering you all on!
Fundraising Stalls & Community Afternoon Tea
As well as the hive of sporting activity, our Year 7 pupils set up fundraising stalls. They planned, promoted and ordered stock for their stalls as part of their employability skills topic. The stalls included selling ice-lollies, drinks, sweets & face-painting. Well done to everyone & thank you to Miss Arif for organising it.
We were also joined by our local elderly residents who had been invited to come and watch Sports Day and enjoy some delicious cakes. The residents thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon and was lovely for them to see the pupils in action. Thank you to Miss Senior and the Sporting Ambassadors.
Trophy Presentation
Well done to all those pupils who broke records in the track and field events. Some records had not been broken for many years! Mr Blanchenot was delighted to present the trophies to the Year 12 House Leaders. Congratulations to the winners:
- Sherwood – Cross Country Shield (results of the cross-country competition)
- Marchington – House Cup (results of the house matches)
- Needwood – Rose Bowl (results from house merits)
- Kingstone – Sports Day Trophy (winners of sports day)
A huge thank you goes to everyone for making Sports Day 2026 a success. It was a memorable day planned to perfection by Mr Hulley and the PE department!
