National Apprenticeship Week 2026 is celebrated from Monday 9th Feb – Sunday 15th Feb and aims to highlights the benefits and give more information to those who are interested in doing an apprenticeship, over traditional routes such as University. There are different levels of apprenticeships, including degree apprenticeships, all of which provide students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in their chosen fields while also earning a wage. Apprenticeships also help students build valuable connections in the industry and develop role-specific skills that are highly sought after by employers.

Mrs Ball, Subject Leader of CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) has compiled a presentation for all Form Tutors to share with their groups that showcase the variety of different apprenticeships available. For example, these include a software engineer with the BBC, The Police, Coca Cola and more. Mrs Ball commented that a key part of our Careers Provision at JTHS is how we link our Employability Skills with the roles on offer. These include Positivity, Teamwork, Communication, Problem Solving, Time Management & Self-Awareness.

On Thursday 12th Feb, the John Taylor MAT has arranged for students from across the Trust to visit Chase Terrace Academy, for a jam-packed day of collaborative and engaging workshops. The workshops include; Job descriptions, applying for apprenticeship jobs, transferrable skills, apprenticeship journeys and CV writing. We are excited to see what the day brings and how our pupils have benefited.
The John Taylor MAT have also arranged with our preferred apprenticeship partner, LMP Education, to run a series of webinars during National Apprenticeship Week that people can sign up for. The John Taylor MAT have also been carrying out case studies on current apprenticeships who work within the John Taylor MAT, to gain insight their apprenticeship journey and pathway.

On Tuesday 10th Feb, there will be an assembly for all Year 12 pupils from JTMAT schools, hosted by an ambassador from NGTU (Not Going To Uni). The students will have the chance to get involved in a Q&A session at the end.

In preparation for National Apprenticeship Week, we were delighted to welcome back Burton & South Derbyshire College who talked through Post-16 options and what apprenticeships BTECs and T-levels were all about. Our pupils learnt about the assessment criteria, specific industries, real stories, skills which was incredibly valuable. For more information about pathways with Burton & South Derbyshire College, visit their website here.

We were delighted to welcome back JTHS alumni member Andrew, who started his apprenticeship with CBRE only last year after finishing his A-Levels in 2025 Global Commercial Real Estate Services | CBRE UK. Andrew spoke about the scheme which would take 4 years to complete, the entry requirements, starting salaries and what the day-to-day role involved. It was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to hear Andrew’s apprenticeship journey first-hand.
