Four of our outstanding Year 12 students, Chloe P, Max A, Issy H and Verity B, recently represented the school at the annual Lichfield School Speaking Competition, a prestigious event that brings together local schools to compete for both Best Team and Best Individual Speaker. This year’s thought-provoking motion, “Immigration: who wins, who loses?”, challenged students to explore one of the most complex and widely debated issues of our time.

Over the past month, our team have worked tirelessly to craft and refine a speech that was both mature and balanced. Determined to move beyond headlines and stereotypes, they encouraged the audience to reflect on the nuanced realities of immigration: examining its social impact on our everyday lives as well as its political framing in government policy and media discourse. Their commitment to research, collaboration and rehearsal was evident in the confidence and clarity of their delivery.
The competition was held in the magnificent surroundings of Lichfield Cathedral, where students performed to an audience of teachers, parents, local politicians and community stakeholders. Our team delivered their speeches with composure and conviction, representing the school with pride. Each member was personally praised and congratulated by local MP Dave Robertson, who commended their thoughtful analysis and assured delivery.
We also thoroughly enjoyed hearing the diverse perspectives presented by other participating schools. Congratulations to this year’s winners, The Friary School — a well-deserved achievement.
We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, teamwork and eloquence on such an important topic.
