We are delighted to announce that our library was chosen as winner of the ‘Nuff Said award for best book display this week, as part of this years’ Excelsior Awards event.
Named in honour of Stan Lee, the renowned co-creator of Marvel Comics, the Excelsior Award is the only fully independent, nationwide book award for graphic novels and manga – where young people aged 9-16 decide the winner (via four age-appropriate categories) by rating each book as they read them. The award now regularly attracts over a hundred schools from all over the UK and Ireland. Since February, members of the JTHS Book Club have been reading and critiquing this years’ nominations, before casting their votes for their favourites.
Each year, school libraries are also encouraged to create a unique display that champion the nominated graphic novels, with the ‘Nuff Said accolade being awarded for the best one (‘Nuff Said is one of Stan Lee’s more memorable and frequently used phrases and it simply means… no words are necessary). Members of the Y8 Art Club were commissioned by our librarian to create their own pieces of art inspired by the artwork of the nominated titles. The quality of the artwork showcased our student’s natural talent and thoroughly impressed the judges, with Excelsior Award founder, Paul Register, awarding the accolade to our school during the livestreamed award ceremony on Wednesday. Congratulations to artists that participated in this project!
