Employability Skills are essential as they equip our pupils with the abilities needed to succeed in their future pathway and navigate the complexity of the workplace.
As a school, we have identified six employability skills that will be embedded across the curriculum. These skills were identified by the Stoke and Staffordshire Careers Hub. Employability Skills will be delivered through a registration session once a week for all year groups, throughout the curriculum and through extracurricular activities.

Autumn Term 1 – Time management
- The ability to use your time effectively or productively, especially at work.
- The process of organising and planning how to divide your time between different activities.
- The ability to work smarter, not harder, to get more done in less time.
Autumn Term 2 – Communication
- The exchanging of information by speaking, writing or any other way.
- Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place, person or group to another.
Spring 1 – Positivity
- Having a constructive and optimistic attitude and approach while carrying out tasks in a workplace environment.
- It involves employees focusing on strengths, opportunities and solutions rather than negative aspects and challenges.
Spring 2 – Self Awareness
- The ability to accurately perceive and understand your own strengths, weaknesses, motivations and behaviours within the context of the working environment.
- Then to be able to use this to improve your performance, and contribute positively to their work environment.
Summer 1 – Team work
- Working with others to achieve common goals .
- Teams can be small or large, focused on simple or multiple, complex tasks, they can work closely together, or communicate digitally over long-distances.
Summer 2 – Problem Solving
- Identifying, analysing and resolving challenges, issues or obstacles that arise in your job.
- The ability to use a creative and systematic approach to overcome challenges to maintain a smooth and operational work place.
There are so many opportunities outside the classroom to get involved in. There are a variety of clubs and trips which I have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in. (Year 11 pupil)
