You may remember we told you about how our Year 9 pupils were invited to take part in a significant UK initiative in commemoration of VJ day. The National Memorial Arboretum and the Royal British Legion collaborated with renowned international artist Mahtab Hussain who briefed our young artists on producing a poster highlighting India’s contributions during wartime, a poster that tells the story of unity and remembrance. Students learnt about the significant roles played by Indian soldiers in World War II, highlighting their bravery and sacrifices. Our students also learnt how Mahtab’s work addresses social harmony. Here they are in the briefing workshop with Mahtab back in October at JTHS and their incredible pieces of artwork.

The exhibition at the National Memorial Arboretum is now complete and our pupils artwork is being displayed to an estimated 17,000 visitors, at the Illuminating Arboretum event. The impressive exhibition features artwork from the floor to ceiling and is breathtaking. Well done to the following students for submitting their artwork, we are incredibly proud of you; Dylan, Rosie E, Daisy, Brodie, Isla, Arianne, Bethan , Rebekah and Rosie E. Their designs were based on the Forgotten Army and were displayed alongside Mahtab’s Hussain’s bronze sculpture and poster. Miss Evans, Head of Faculty Creative Arts, said ‘it has been an absolute honour to be involved in this project, and we look forward to future collaborations.’
