‘Hot Chocolate with the Head’ celebrated our Year 9 & 10 pupils who triumphed in the UK Linguistics Olympiad 2026 competition. The teams took part in the challenge in February, and we are delighted to have now received the results.

The Year 9 team included Lucy G, Jessica B, Rosie E, Rebekah S-G, Amira H, Fatimah W, Erika N, Ella F, Bethan P who were awarded ‘gold’ status.

The Year 10 team included Emilia C, Isabella N, Felicity S, Lexi C, Laura G, Mia-Ann F, Lizzie C who were awarded ‘bronze’ status.

The pupils all excelled as they de-coded questions in languages such as Naija, Hangul, Finnish, Romanian, Thaana and Warembori.

Mrs Smoker, Teacher of MFL explained how the teams showed real problem-solving skills throughout the sessions. Some pupils had never heard of some languages, so it was vital they applied their language skills, knowledge and logic to help complete the tasks and questions.

All the pupils agreed that they’d enjoyed the experience working together as a team and persevering to find the answers. Mr Blanchenot thoroughly enjoyed listening to the group sharing their achievement and said that he was incredibly proud of them volunteering to take part in the Linguistics Olympiad.

Here are the teams in action during the competition.
