This week’s ‘Hot Chocolate with the Head’ celebrated those pupils who had represented JTHS at the JTMAT Subject Excellence History Challenge, competing against other secondary schools in the trust.
The team of pupils, Abbigail C – Year 11, Aurelie G – Year 9, Jakob H – Year 7, Abigail L – Y12, Chloe P – Year 12, Alexia P – Year 12, Lucy T – Year 11 and Amelie H – Year 9, were tasked with delivering a compelling presentation on a memorial of their choice, at the National Memorial Arboretum.
Mr Blanchenot said ‘the effort from the pupils was phenomenal. Not only was the presentation incredibly engaging and articulate, but they conveyed the motivations, needs and impact of their research to an extremely high standard, which impressed myself and the judges’.
The panel of judges included the Arboretum Learning Centre team and British Legion veterans, who were extremely complimentary and impressed in how the pupils had approached the task showing integrity, teamwork and communication whilst dealing with complex and emotive issues. Chloe P in Year 12 commented how the experience had helped her develop skills in research, leadership and presenting; all of which will aid her during her university application and in the future.
The JTHS team put up a fantastic performance and missed out on taking the title by one single point, placing them second. Mr Roberts, Deputy Head of Faculty Humanities, organised the event and accompanied the pupils to the National Memorial Arboretum. He asked the pupils if they had enjoyed the experience, to which they gave a resounding ‘yes’. Well done to you all for representing the school so fantastically!
