This week’s Hot Chocolate with the Head showcased a diverse range of achievements across our school. Mr Blanchenot was thrilled by the variety of nominations that reflected pupils’ commitment to community, literacy, sport, digital innovation and charity.

Angus, Charlie, Noah and Jack (Year 9) were nominated by Ms Smith and Miss Sears after being spotted litter picking around Barton. Angus told the group how their focus has been on the area near the canal by Starbucks, which generates a high volume of litter. Their work forms part of their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) activities and shows how the group show pride in supporting the village and the local environment. Well done for demonstrating our ‘one community’ ethos!
Freddie (Year 7) was nominated by Mrs Drage for his brilliant support during the school charity event. He served as DJ throughout lunchtime on Thursday 7th May, prepared equipment in his own time and both set up and packed away after the event. Freddie shared how he loves to practice his DJ’ing at home with family members and even has a go at mixing on vinyl, which is very different to the digital mixer he was using at the charity event! Mrs Drage commented that he was ‘an absolute credit to his form group and the whole school.’
Emilia (Year 11) was nominated by Miss Dean for her excellent article and review of ‘Queens at War’ by Alison Weir. Her piece was written for the Lichfield Literature Festival’s Young Critic programme in March which demonstrated strong analysis and fantastic writing skills. Well done Emilia.
Musa (Year 9) was nominated by Mr Williams after winning a gold medal at the Derbyshire Wrestling Competition. Mr Williams said ‘this is a fantastic personal achievement for Musa who shows passion, enthusiasm, skill for the sport.’
Amelia (Year 8) was nominated by Miss Senior for an outstanding all-round performance at the West Midlands Gymnastics Competition in Cannock, winning first place on bars, beam, vault and range. We wish you all the success in the future Amelia!
George (Year 11) was nominated by Mr Hulley for being part of Staffordshire County’s football team that recently won the U16s league. To be recognised at county level is a fantastic achievement for George who has shown incredible determination in this sport.
Keiran (Year 9) was nominated by Mrs Ball for presenting an app he created about Digital Careers to a panel of industry experts at the BT offices in Birmingham. His speaking and presentation skills, together with his tech knowledge, showed initiative and practical creativity. The employees from BT gave great feedback about the presentation, which Keiran should be really proud of.
