‘Hot Chocolate with the Head’ today celebrated four-star pupils for a variety of achievements. Mr Blanchenot told the group that this was his favourite part of the week & was pleased to hear how they had gone above & beyond!

Firstly, a special mention goes to Betty in Year 7 who won the UK Young Designer Competition in partnership with M&S and YoungMinds for the #HelloYellow collection, which raises awareness for World Mental Health Day. Read more here in our World Mental Health Day Article. Betty was one of 8000 applicants from across the UK who designed a sweatshirt or t-shirt to be sold in M&S stores and online. All profits from the sales of the items of clothing will be donated to YoungMinds who support young people with their mental health. Betty’s incredible design impressed the judges and she was one of four winners to see her design come to life from paper to product and sold in M&S stores. If you would like to support Betty and YoungMinds, here is the link to her winning t-shirt which is live on the M&S website. Betty was also involved in a promotional social media video with M&S which you can watch here. What an incredible and much-deserved experience for Betty!
Next to share their story were Matilda and Jude in Year 8, who were nominated by Mr Rudge for being part of the cast of Lichfield Musical Youth Theatre’s production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Matilda was cast in the assemble and Jude played Grandpa George. The young performers said that they thoroughly enjoyed every second of being involved in the show and a real highlight was knowing their families were in the audience watching them, along with 500 other people. These shining stars are now auditioning for a part in the theatre company’s next production, Fame. Good luck to you both.
Lastly, Alice in Year 11 was nominated by Mrs Tremble for being crowned the winner of the national Young Writers competition. Alice, a skilled writer, told the group that she was tasked with writing a one-hundred-word narrative about contrasting characters. Alice decided to cleverly re-write Peter Pan, from Hook’s perspective. She said that ‘despite it being a small word count, it became challenging to condense my story down as I had to be very precise with my word choices. It took a lot of skill to perfect my entry as I wanted to ensure I had portrayed the characters to my best ability.’ Alice’s hard-work paid off and she was delighted to have won.
Well done to everyone! To nominate a pupil for ‘Hot Chocolate with the Head’ please email a.letren@jths.co.uk
