Going Places: Green Spaces, Shared Places
Mr Blanchenot met with a group of creative Year 8 pupils who had been nominated by Miss Clayton, for their participation in an exciting art project at the National Memorial Arboretum.
The ‘Going Places’ project is a UK wide programme funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Julia Rausing Trust which is designed to help audiences focus on the importance of the great outdoors. This includes the positive impact that nature and the outdoors can have on mental and physical health.
The Year 8 pupils were incredibly excited to be involved with the project. Once briefed on the day, Scarlett F, Amun K, Isla S, Beatrix M-B, Martha L, Jude P, Libby W, Daisy C, Alexia P and Dexter R were tasked with collecting natural objects in the beautiful open space at the arboretum to upcycle them into ‘mini-me’ sculptures. The Year 8 pupils had the opportunity to be guided by Dr E Dawson Varughese, who gave incredible feedback about the standard of work produced by our pupils. Miss Clayton commented that ‘the pupils were an absolute credit to the school’.
The sculptures produced will now go on display at The National Memorial Arboretum for their upcoming ‘Going Places Exhibition’ on Thursday 25th June. Take a look at the beautiful pieces below.
