The National Careers Service provides information, advice and guidance to help you make decisions on learning, training and work opportunities. The service offers confidential and impartial advice. This is supported by qualified careers advisers. The National Careers Service website aims to:

Careersbox is a free online library of careers related film, news and information. As the preferred digital new media partner to the Institute of Career Guidance, the largest careers body in the UK, Careersbox aim is to deliver a new way for students to explore their skills and career options.

LifeSkills, created with Barclays, is a free, curriculum-linked programme, developed with teachers to help improve the skills and employability of young people in the UK.

Career Pilot is where you can plan your study & work. Your choices at 14, 16 and 18, explore different job sectors and how you can study and work at the same time – even to university level.

Success at School is the place for young people to explore careers, get the lowdown on top employers, and search for the latest jobs, courses and advice.

SACU offers a great independent & impartial source of careers information to students, parents and teachers. Once students have registered they can take the Spartan test, which creates three different ‘clouds ‘of information related specifically to careers, apprenticeships and subject choices. Students can match their A levels to produce a list of university courses that other students have applied for with the same subject combination. They can also explore up to date Labour Market Information related to their chosen career.

The notgoingtouni website is the one stop site for apprenticeships, gap years, distance learning and jobs.

UCAS will use this site to apply for most university courses in the UK. It now also provides resources for apprenticeships and lists apprenticeship opportunities across the UK.

‘Get my first job’ – works with leading Skills Funding Agency registered training providers and colleges to advertise and manage Apprenticeships and training programmes. Students can quickly register their details and apply for positions in their preferred location and area of interest. There are also resources for parents.

Open days are a fantastic way of exploring facilities and provision and provide a useful insight into what university/college life is like. Universities also provide workshops and taster lessons to help students make the right decision for them. This site provides a full calendar of all the University Open days which will prove to be very useful when planning to avoid missing school days. Most universities have open days at a weekend now.

Student Ladder provides information on over 2500 Work Placements, Graduate Schemes & Internship opportunities for 16-24 year old students. Over 100 School Leaver Programmes for those not going to university. Application Advice on CVs, interviews, online tests and assessment centres. Provides information, guidance and advice from GCSE through to graduation.

All About School Leavers is a website that provides advice to help students on their career journey, from how to write a CV and cover letter, or preparing for job interviews, to guidance on how to access specific industries and the different levels of apprenticeships. Students can use the search facility to look for positions specifically tailored to them – sorted by industry, location, or the type of programme – or simply browse through all the opportunities on the school leaver jobs board. When a position catches their eye they simply click on the vacancy for more detailed information and for that all-important ‘Apply Now’ button.
