We’re holding a flagship event to celebrate and promote women in engineering and demonstrate how engineering careers can open doors for everyone.
Taking place in our state-of-the-art Institute of Technology based at The Roundhouse, on Wednesday 11th February (International Women in STEM Day) from 5pm until 7pm, this event will bring together inspiring guest speakers, global engineering companies and industry professionals who will talk openly about:
- Why women are vital to the future of engineering
- The wide range of careers available
- Different routes into the industry, including apprenticeships, college courses and beyond
- How engineering skills can lead to exciting, lucrative and meaningful careers
You’ll have the chance to hear real stories, ask questions, and learn directly from people working in the industry today. There will also be hands-on activities for you to take part in, experience the state-of-the-art facilities, and learn more about the courses offered at Derby College Group.
Leading global and national engineering organisations, including Siemens Mobility, TÜV Rheinland, Network Rail, Porterbrook and Amey, will be joining us, alongside SheCanEngineer and Women in Rail, to share real-world insight, guidance and encouragement for all young people wanting to pursue a career in engineering.
The event is open to Year 9 – 11 to attend to support with exploring their next steps and to anyone considering higher education or vocational pathways in engineering.
For those interested in attending, they can register using this link: Women in Engineering Event
*Because women are underrepresented in engineering (recent sector data show women comprise less than 17% of the engineering and technology workforce), this event is part of our positive action commitment under the Equality Act 2010, and is designed primarily for women who want to learn about pathways into engineering, meet role models, and build confidence and networks, however everybody is welcome to attend.
