Anti-Bullying Week is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of bullying of young people, with an emphasis on prevention and effective responses to bullying. It began in 2002 and is coordinated by the charity Anti-Bullying Alliance. This year’s theme for Anti-bullying week is ‘Power for Good’. Pupils at John Taylor High School have taken part in several activities throughout the week to empower them to counteract bullying with ‘kindness’, which is also one of our school’s core values.

If you or your child is experiencing bullying, please visit our Anti-bullying page on the website. You will find a number of resources and signposting information.

Our Student Inclusion Team and Year 7 Anti-bullying committee have worked incredibly hard to encourage everyone to take positive actions to support those affected by bullying and to foster a culture of respect and empathy. They have delivered information during form time and asked pupils and teachers to get creative with their classroom doors by decorating them in bright and eye-catching colours. Pupils also made a ‘kindness pledge’ which were displayed on the doors too. The Student Inclusion Team’s pledge was ‘We believe every student deserves to feel happy, safe and included – part of a community grounded in kindness, respect, perseverance and integrity.’ Thank you to our Student Inclusion Team for being such incredible role models, not only during Anti-bullying week, but every other week of the year too.

After much deliberation, Mr Blanchenot awarded the following doors: 1st Prize – U19 | 2nd Prize – U24 | 3rd Prize – T10

As part of the national campaign, pupils were also invited to wear Odd Socks to celebrate individuality and promote kindness. Pupils also enjoyed some delicious cakes at our ever-popular lunchtime bake sale. Thank you to everyone for showing so much kindness – to those who donated cakes, bought cakes and gave up their time to volunteer at the stall. The donations from the cake sale will be given to our partner charity Kids’ Village, who are raising funds to build the UK’s first respite holiday village for children with a critical illness.
